Worked for 12 months as Technical Manager on a project for Central Trustee Savings Bank (London), designing and  implementing an extension to the bank's existing CHAPS system.  The new software enabled CTSB to connect their existing network of branch offices to their Central London Tandem, and from there into the CHAPS network.  This enhancement required building an IBM 2780 communications interface, automatic message authentication, remote/offsite logging and additional screen handling for the user interface.

An initial 3 month period exited during which 4 Logica staff defined the the  Branch Network Access (BNA) sub-system and a following phase involved 6 Logica staff and 2 client staff on the design, coding and testing of the new software.

As technical manager, was responsible for the overall design approach for incorporating the new software, ensuring a consistent approach on overlapping areas between old/new software.  Responsible for the conducting of system integration and testing. Assisted the project manager with planning & Quality Assurance, system design reviews and evaluation of client change requests. Supervised the conducting of systems integration testing and the production of 'ad-hock; testing tools.

Also acted as  team leader for the development of the new communications interface and the formulation of an application level "link protocol" to control the data traffic between the branch offices and the host CHAPS system.

Was responsible for the over-all design of the IBM 2780 communication link. The design implemented a single-threaded dialogue to the branches and a multi-threaded one from them, incorporating time-out/reporting, inter-process message management,  internal consistency checking,  and data flow tracing.

Personally designed, coded and tested the communication link's state driven kernel module, its 2780 BISYNC driver and its CHAPS inward message processing module. The software was written in TAL

Supervised system integration and testing. Coordinated the production of ad-hoc software & testing tools
